What To Wear For A Maternity Session
If you’re pregnant, I’m willing to bet that you’ve googled “what to wear for a maternity shoot” once or twice.
As a woman, deciding what you are going to wear everyday can be a struggle. As a pregnant woman, the struggle is most definitely real. There are so many added hurdles: hormones, a tiny human growing inside you, swollen feet, did I mention hormones? It’s exhausting. Now, throw a maternity session in the mix, and trust me when I say, there is absolutely NOTHING in your closest. Am I right?!
The good news? I have some tips and tricks to help you look stunning and accentuate your belly in the process!
1. say yes to the dress
Dresses and skirts look stunning because they flatter every female body and provide extra movement on camera. For soon-to-be moms, we generally recommend floor-length gowns or maxi dresses. This style of dress creates the a great silhouette that flatters the figure and really highlights that baby bump.
2. comfort is key
Being comfortable is the ultimate hurdle you need to cross. If you’re uncomfortable in your outfit selection it will show on camera. So although dresses are typically our recommendation, especially for an outdoor lifestyle session, it’s not the only route you can take. A great switch, if you are not comfortable in a dress, is switching to an in-home maternity session. Over-sized sweaters are a great pick for indoor sessions, as they provide a more relaxed feel.
3. simple is best
When selecting the color palette for your outfit, we recommend selecting softer, lighter tones in a more muted shade. By avoiding bold colors, it will help keep the attention on you and your bump. The camera loves shades of soft pink and muted blues, mixed with sophisticated light neutrals like heather gray, creams, leather brown and white. That softer color palette fits perfectly into almost all natural outdoor environments. Patterns aren’t an absolute “no go”, but be sure that they aren’t overpowering.
